Stock Watch 9.20.11 ” I Robot”
No secret the last 5 trading days the indexes have made huge upside moves in the last 40 minutes of the trading day. This algorithmic robot trading adds one more element the professional trader now has to compete with. I always think of that movie with Will Smith “I Robot” where all of the robots they created to help them eventually turned on them. Its these type of high tech computer systems that cause circuit breakers to melt, flash crashes, and wild west like swings. Will computers someday replace the daytrader? Only time will tell.
