Gaius Augustus is considered the first emperor of the Roman Empire and the grandnephew of Julius Caesar.After Augustus defeated Marc Anthony and Cleopatra, and became emperor of Rome, the Roman Senate decided that he too should have a month named after him. Since July was named after Julius.
Not only did the Senate of Rome name a month after Augustus, but it decided that since Julius’s month, July, had 31 days, Augustus’s month should equal it. Augustus was known for his financial prowess. We too shall be know for our financial success in August.
