It was 3 years ago I had a massive hive of African Bees on the side of my home. I tried a several methods to get rid of them but the real problem was access to the hive. You see they were on the top corner of my home and I live in a 3 story home so these bees were a good 35 feet in the air. I eventually gave up and hired a bee keeper to remove the hive and relocate them. That was cool but that process cost me $600 bucks because he wasn’t to excited about climbing up there.
Well last week I became super disappointed when I looked up to the corner of my home Ā and noticed that a new swarm of bees had begun to hive in the same spot. Bees are incredible creatures they can smell out an old spot where a queen used to be for up to 5 miles and these bees wanted to seize control of their old crib
I decided this time that I would save the 600 bucks and remove them myself. Ā One reason is I had this great idea to build an area on the back of my property to store these bees so each year they would come to the bee keeping area and hive there instead of hiving on my house. The second reason is because I don’t feel like spending 600 bucks again. I mean I saw how the bee keeper removed the bees and it didn’t look that hard plus I just bought a 40 foot ladder just in case something like this ever happened again.
My first order of business was to put on my bee suit, which I don’t own one. So I had to custom make one out of old clothes and some motorcycle gear. I was worried the most about my face area being stung so I put on an old motorcycle helmet and off I went to the roof

First off this outfit was horrible, It was a good 85 degrees Saturday afternoon and I was pouring with sweat in that thing, Because of that I kept fogging up the shield on the motorcycle helmet so I couldn’t see anything. I smoked the hive to calm the bees down waited for a few moments and climbed back up the ladder to scrape the hive into a bucket. That smoke did nothing to calm the bees. As soon as I touched that hive those things went psycho on me big time, I suddenly was swarmed by what was seemed like thousands of bees. In a panicĀ I started hauling it down the ladder and about 10 feet from the bottom I slipped and fell off the ladder, slamming into the ground. I was lucky not to have spannered myself up righteous but I still dinged myself up pretty good. In the end I guess it was good I had that motorcycle helmet to keep me from getting knocked out. In the end I called a bee keeper($600) to come out and get them and he relocated them to a section of my property.

The moral of this story is sometimes we think things look easy because someone made them look easy and somethings should be left to the pros. In the end not only did I end up spending the $600 to have the bees removed but I ended up bruising the hell out of myself
