It has been an incredible 5 years as owner of TheLincolnList.com. I’ve met some fantastic people along the way and have lived through some unforgettable moments. As I look back to where I was then, where I am now and where I want to be in the next 5 years I am reminded of how special this experience has been and all of the people involved in this journey.I would like to take a moment to reflect on how far I have come and thank a few people that played a part in my success.
First I would say running TheLincolnList has felt more like 50 years than 5! Living the entrepreneurial life can be so exhausting and frustrating and being successful consumes a lot of your time. As an entrepreneur you work an obsessive amount of hours and your brain just never stops thinking of new ideas and new ways to do things. Even when it appears you are just relaxing, watching the game or hanging with friends you are really thinking “What is my next move” ” How will I stay on top” ” I should change my website” ” I should create this” ,” Dang I forgot to do that” ” Ooops that didnt work” and bla bla bla. Seriously, you just never stop moving but that is what you have to do if you want to be successful at anything. This is why people have a hard time succeeding or following through with their dreams is because they underestimate the time and emotional commitment it takes to be a winner. For an entrepreneur there are no sick days, time clocks, holidays or weekends you are just a machine in pursuit of goals. Living this type of lifestyle can certainly wear you down and put an enormous stress on those around you but this is what must be done if you want to be the best.
I was once told ” In business it takes 10 times longer than you think, costs 20 times more than you thought and its never as good as you want it to be” Oh so true. I have always had the tendency in my life to just ” go for it.” This can be a great gift but also a curse. My heart is always in the right place but I don’t always think things through. When I started my motorcycle racing career as a teen I just went out and bought a bike and starting racing it. I had never ridden a motorcycle before, I had no preparation and no practice on a bike nor did I have any idea what I was getting myself into. Eventually I would have a nice career as a motorcycle racer, but it took a lot of hard work before I figured it out. ( I once wrote an article about this experience you can read it here). When I started my trading career I just read an article in the Wall Street Journal about trading and said ” that sounds fun” so I opened up a brokerage account and started pushing buttons. Again, no preparation or training, no wonder I got smoked so bad. However, just like my racing career I stayed with it, worked hard and became very successful at it. Then when I started TheLincolnList I had like 200 twitter followers and a one page website run on Dreamweaver and said ” I have a story to tell and I can help people” So true to form I dove right in without knowing a damn thing about running a stock trading service and of course that didnt go well at the beginning either lol. But like everything else I worked hard, stayed with it and now you can add stock trading service to my list of successful endeavors.
Because running a business requires so much of an emotional commitment the people around you have to deal with the brunt of your crankiness sometimes. Ive always said to be successful you need a support team and for me that starts with my Girlfriend of almost 28 years. She has been with me and put up with my bullshit since I was a teenager. She has always encouraged me to keep pushing. In the 90’s she was supportive of my racing and sacrificed her own time and money to help me get to races. When I was down and out as a stock trader after blowing up my account it was her who loaned me the money to get back in the game. When people told me to get a real job she would tell me “F those people you can do this”. When I was struggling with TheLincolnList in the early years she would say ” Just stick it out people will come around”. She has always been able to see something in me that I havent been able to see in myself. A true supporter of you will make you feel like that.
There have also been other supporters of me and people that have helped me along the way. For starters I have to begin with “inmate” AKA Phil. When I started TheLincolnList he was my very first client and in the beginning he was the ONLY client. For the first month or so it was just us two that was it. We were like a real life version of Jerry McGuire and Rod Tidwell. Cool thing about inmate is he is still part of the room today- 5 years later. I have watched him grow as a trader and in tern he has driven me nuts lol but its all in good fun cause we are like brothers now.
Also, I owe a great deal to @kunal00 at Bulls On Wall Street and his sidekick @mb_willoughby. Kunal helped me out a lot in the beginning and helped get some recognition my way. He has the wildest selection of tank tops that you will ever see and he talks 1000 miles an hour but he is a true leader. He has been willing to offer his business expertise to me and Im glad I get to work with him now with his Clique fund. He is a genuine person, he cares about his students and he is someone I look up too even though Im about 140 years older than him.
I would also like to thank some of these people I had in my room at one time or another. Some are still with TheLincolnList and some have left but they had some impact on my growth as a business leader. When my room first started to take off it was @WallStreetNole and @brysenp helping me out. Then it was @katsu127. Then it was @daytraderJM and now we have @ccbishop @Indyburghfan and all these other members that have been with me forever and make my job fun ” Pirate” “souza” “BW” “silvi” “jarrod” “bingo” “otter” “Ira” ” annabele” “edmundo” “ed” “ari” “MArnzen” “Scubacw” “Rod-P ” “Ro” and “hornet” ( hope I didnt leave anyone out). We have been around each other for so long we are like a family now. I would also like to give a shout out to @hillmf I just like his pictures and love chatting with the guy. I have a feeling if I showed up in Buffalo at 3 am he would let me in and start talking about stocks and workout supps.
No matter what you chose to do in life remember “its all about the journey” I know that is so cliche but it truly is. No matter how much you are financially rewarded or how many high dollar items you buy the thing you cherish the most in life is the relationships you build and the experiences you have. The people that you are able to meet that will change your life for the better and the people that you meet that you will impact forever is priceless. TheLincolnList has been an amazing journey and certainly if I could go back in time I would have done a few things differently but Im still here and I am proud of what I built. I proud of the people I have been able to help and Im proud to be here right now doing what I love to do for a living. Now lets start working on the next 5 years.See ya in 2020 with a 10 year update!
