Soundgarden,Sheena Easton,Seagrams and Snowmobiles

“Luck never made a man wise.”

Although strange this story relates to trading

It all started in mid 90’s when I won two tickets and back stage passes to a Soundgarden concert in Reno NV. At the time I had never seen Soundgarden nor had I been to Reno so this was going to be a moment of massive splendiferousness . Plus this was going to be an shoe in for me to finally get that date with the lovey Miss Lisa. I mean no girl in the mid 90’s of sound mind would turn down Soundgarden back stage passes. I was so excited I bought me a stack of flannel shirts and grew out a wicked goatee. I even bought a studded leather bracelet and a pair of black tights for Miss Lisa and off to Reno we went

Soundgarden 90’s Grunge Legends

I was living in Florida at the time so this was a decent trek to NV. When I landed in Reno the first thing I did on the way to baggage claim was put a quarter in a slot machine. Well what to do ya know, bam, I won $150!! When I got to my hotel they were overbooked and by mistake gave out my room. They must have thought I was a baller or something because they decided to upgrade me to a suite at no additional cost, and not just any suite, this thing had a hot tub and a sauna in it. This room was an easy 1k pr night so if you are keeping track The Lincoln here is up +1200 in the first few hours.

Hot Tub Suites. For Grunge Ballers only

That night I rolled down to the casino and started playing craps. I had no clue about the strategy of craps. As a matter of fact I’m reading the craps instruction/strategy pamphlet while I’m playing the game, not recommended. It didn’t matter anyway because after 1 hour I had jipped that table for +1500 bucks. Me and the lovely Miss Lisa were so giddy cause we have no clue on how we ended up with this money and it was such a moment she gave me a smooch on the cheek. If you are keeping track The Lincoln is up an easy +2.7k and 1 kiss from Miss Lisa.

I’m on a serious roll but my luck is about to change. The next day I decided to shoot down to Tahoe before the concert to ride snowmobiles. I was also stoked about this because I had not been on a snowmobile in 10 years. Now, I have raced motor sports since I was 11 yrs old, both cars and bikes. However, that skill does not translate to snowmobiles. On the way down the mountain I was showing off with the lovely Miss Lisa on the back of the snowmobile when I lost control and was thrown from the snowmobile, however, Miss Lisa was not! She was still on the snowmobile. I yelled for her to gab the controls and stop the snowmobile but she jumped off instead and down over the hillside goes the snowmobile. Fortunately, we were both okay but the snowmobile was trashed.

Rented Snowmobile. You break it you buy it

When I got back to the office where I rented the snowmobile I was kindly informed that I signed a waiver that I was responsible for damages to the sled. In short this stunt cost me 4k. I through a massive tantrum but I was getting nowhere. I was so caught up in the moment I lost track of time and realized I have to get back to Reno for the Soundgarden Concert. As expected I was super late I missed 3/4 of the Soundgarden set. I thought well at least I sill have the backstage passes. Well, I was about to be thrown another twist as the Backstage passes were bunk. Yes they were no good. That radio station gave me outdated passes. The Lincoln is mad. I even tried to bribe the security guy but no go.

It was about time for me to leave but not before the lovely Miss Lisa suggests that we go to the Sheena Easton concert at the hotel. I said FOR REAL are you nuts I’m not in the mood to see an Scottish hobbit sing songs all night. I didn’t say that out loud. I was trying to impress the lovey Miss Lisa so I bought the tickets ( $400) and sat there the the whole time doing Seagrams shots just to stomach this moment. What men will do to advance in the eyes of a female.

Sheena Easton. Cute, but a 3 hour concert for 400 bucks -nope.

Well I was happy to skedaddle out of Reno. If you have kept track The Lincoln started up +2.7k but after the snowmobile crash and Sheena Easton crap I was now down a cool 3k plus Miss Lisa thinks I’m an idiot.

You may ask, how does this dumb story relate to trading. Well, when we get lucky at times and we become over confident. In our business that’s a recipe for disaster. You are only as good as your last trade. Also, it is a lesson that it’s not important how you start but how you finish. I think we’ve all launched out of the gate with huge wins only to squander them on overconfident trades or just by pushing our luck. The truth is it’s amazing how quickly things can change in life. You can go from an ultimate high to an ultimate low in minutes and vice versa. Trading, as with life is a day by day process. Each day is a new day that brings new challenges and new opportunities and you never know whats next. To prove that when I got my credit card bill the snowmobile place only charged me $800 not 4k. Then when I contacted the radio station about the tickets they made it up to me by sending me to the Metallica concert by limo, and yes the lovely Miss Lisa went with me 🙂
