Here is a simple rule that will guarantee  you become successful and quite possibly make you rich-  Invest 3 percent of your income back into yourself.  That’s the advice that well known sales trainer and motivational speaker  Brian Tracy recommends. If you invest  in yourself you can double or even triple your income and it will work for anyone. No matter what your current circumstances are.

Knowledge is THE MOST powerful asset. It makes the difference between living in abundance or living in scarcity . The only difference between the haves and the have nots is their knowledge. It is what you know that will bring you success and it’s what you don’t know that will cause you to fail. With knowledge being such a powerful asset, why do so many continue to do it the hard way?  Why do so many people continue to struggle and fall short of their dreams because they just won’t take the time to learn about the things necessary to get them to the success level they desire? Why do so many people continue to attempt business ventures and personal life goals with no prior knowledge or training on how to complete them?

One of the ways I  invest in myself is I try to learn about something new each month. It can be  something I’m curious about or something I want to know more about but each month I will spend some time obtaining knowledge on that subject. It doesn’t matter if I ever use that knowledge, I still feel it is important to expand your mind and your outlook. Even if I have no plans on making a career or hobby out of it. I will take classes and attend seminars on random things just to gain the knowledge. From my point of view the knowledge cant hurt plus it may come in handy in the future.

Most of you know I only do 3 things in life well which is trade stocks, play guitar, and race motorcycles. I mean that is my life right there. Even though that is what I do 90% of the time and work hard to get better at each one of them almost daily, I still make the time to learn about other things. So much so that  I have taken classes or attended workshops on the following subjects:  kayaking, welding, tango, opera, tattooing, bull riding, flying a plane, gardening, mountain climbing, desert survival , stuccoing a house, electrical work,  tiling, car engine repair, Spanish, French, ballet, wine tasting, scotch tasting, coffee harvesting, coffee brewing, carpentry, 4 Wheel Drive Rock Crawling, hang gliding, hot air ballooning, photography, web design, computer repair ( I should have took better notes there) cooking, Roman history, acting, public speaking and a bunch of other stuff I dont have time to mention. Now I suck at all all of these except the stocks, guitar, and the motorcycle, and probably will never need any of these things to get by in life but the point is I have some basic knowledge of these subjects. I know how they work and can lay claim to the fact that ” Ive done that”. Not to mention some of these activities were alot of fun and really opened my eyes.

That may sound like a lot but its relatively easy to gain a large amount of knowledge on various subjects these days. You have so many resources available to you now that generations before us could only dream about. You no longer have to go to a library just to learn a topic. Now you have the internet, seminars, webinars, and workshops on all types of subjects. No matter what it is you are trying to learn I’m sure there is a You Tube video on it.

Self- Education is important beyond the classroom . In the real world self-education matters a whole lot more than formal education. There are plenty of people with a formal education that are still struggling. As Jim Rohn was famously quoted as saying ” Formal education will make you a living; self education will make you a fortune.” If you intend on living up to the expectations you set for yourself you will need to self- educate. It doesnt matter how much it costs or how long it takes it is something that must be done. Remember, the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement.
